When I grow up…

by Mama Chocolate on September 19, 2012

Last week, my mom and I (and the girls, of course,) drove down and visited my Great-Aunt Colleen.

I consider her more of a grandma to us now, and when I grow up, I want to be a grandma just like her.

She loved meeting Elanora and has the energy and imagination to keep up with the antics of Katie and Victoria.

Aunt Colleen has a magical hallway full of dolls and a wonderful homemade doll house made out of a bookshelf-like structure. I remember spending hours in this hallway myself with my sisters, and I love watching my own daughters enjoying the same toys now!

The girls were entranced. When it was time to go, Katie pleaded with me to “stay here forEVER!”

I want my house to be that kind of place someday that kids never want to leave.

I hope someday to be even half as awesome as Aunt Colleen.

Aunt Colleen seems like such a sweet lady. She reminds me of my Grams Rusnak…. she had the energy to keep up with the little ones even in her last few years and we never wanted to leave her house.

And I am fortunate to have grown up with Auntie Colleen as my Mom. I only wish I had been there to love on you as well.

I too had my own “Aunt Colleen” in my Great Aunt Lois. She was an amazing woman and passed away this summer. Her house had an entire room of dolls that she made. I am talking shelves covering every inch of wall. She was such an amazing and entertaining lady. I hope to be just as energetic and caring as she was. I am so happy for you that you have this person in your life. Everyone deserves one.

What sweet memories you have and you are making for your girls! We, too, had a special great-aunt and I miss her so much! Cherish this time :).
