Balboa Baby Shopping Cart Cover Review {Oh Baby Baby Spotlight}

by Mama Chocolate on April 14, 2012

I’ll be honest…before kids, I thought shopping cart covers were for paranoid, germaphobe mothers who needed to relax a bit.

After living through a few colds with my babies, wiping yucky noses for days and cuddling a sad, feverish toddler a few times, I started to see why any extra precaution I could take towards avoiding everyone else’s kids’ germs while we were out and about was totally worth it.

Another issue that is resolved by a cover like the Shopping Cart Cover from Balboa Baby, is cold carts. My little girls are often wearing dresses and might have bare legs underneath, and sometimes those carts are so COLD, or even wet, if it’s a rainy day (which is the case more often than not around here in the soggy Pacific Northwest!)

I was impressed with the quality of the cover’s design and the handy features.

The elasticized corners make it super easy to get the cover on the seat, even one-handed, (which we usually are when out and about with little ones, right?)

The straps of the cart can be threaded through the openings of the cover and then the cover itself has a belt to loop around and secure with the strong velcro-like closure behind your baby’s back over the shopping cart seat.

Katie told me it was her “nest” and was super excited about sitting in the cart (for once!)

Besides protecting your baby from germs and keeping the chilly metal away from her legs, it keeps your hands protected from who-knows-what on the handle of the cart.

The soft, quilted Balboa Baby® Shopping Cart Cover provides a clean and secure environment for babies. The Balboa Baby® Shopping Cart Cover creates a comfortable “nest” for baby with a 360 degree germ free zone. Combining simplicity and convenience, the Shopping Cart Cover features four elastic corners that secure Cover to the cart while providing easy one-hand installation. Toy loops allow you to attach baby‘s favorite playthings, and an extra wide safety strap comfortably keeps baby secure while attaching Cover to shopping cart or high chair. And unlike other bulky covers, the ultra soft quilted material of the Balboa Baby® Shopping Cart Cover folds up so small that it can fit into your diaper bag so you will always have it with you.  It also doubles as a highchair cover when dining at your favorite restaurants.

I love using it for a high chair cover when we’re out, too! Not only is it a relief to not have to worry as much about picking up germs, but it’s also nice to not leave the high chair smeared in whatever she was eating. Our Victoria is a very messy, yet independent little diner, so I am happier leaving the restaurant not such a disaster.

Thanks for the thorough review. I, too, used to think that these covers were for over-protective germaphobe parents, until I tried one. I’m not sure of the brand, but I can say that is was very useful for a wiggly toddler. Once he learned that it was his special seat, he would happily sit in the cart and stay seated through most of the shopping trip (huge progress). I wish I’d have thought of using it in restaurants!
