Beware: Growing is Hazardous

by Mama Chocolate on June 13, 2012

Our sweet little pill, er…darling Victoria is growing at astronomical rates lately.

I just measured her a couple days ago (at 19 months!), and she has literally shot up almost two inches in less than 2 months!

While she attempts to adjust to this suddenly-much-taller body, she is regularly coming to Mama for kisses on all kinds of boo-boos.

In between all the daily bumps and bruises, she’s managed a few major doozies and I find myself thanking God regularly that she made it through the day alive as I lay her down in her crib at night.

A few weeks ago, she tripped outside on the gravel and chipped the bottoms of her two front teeth.

Fortunately, that happened when Papa was home and he helped Mama from freaking out too much…it was a pretty clean, smooth chip, and she’s going to be just fine until those big girl teeth come in and replace them. *whew*

This morning, the girls were playing together on the floor around a chair and Victoria lost her balance and smacked the side of her little face right on the hard edge. Lots of snuggles were required to get her to calm down, (and she’s generally pretty tough, so I knew it had really hurt,) and a big ol’ purple bruise starting showing up almost immediately.

After the sobs subsided, we made it “all better” with some arnica ointment and she was soon cheerful again and completely distracted by helping (er…“helping”) make the waffles for breakfast.

This sweet girl is teaching me more and more that I am not in control, and it’s truly only God’s grace and protection that keep our children alive and healthy through the “perils of childhood.”

In between the heart attacks she’s giving me, she keeps that same heart laughing daily at her spicy little personality, and melting during her sweet and snuggly moments.

I wouldn’t trade her for anything.

Awe, what a sweetie. Love those pictures! And, yes, it is definitely GOD who keeps them alive in those younger years (and older years, too) and not us. :) Mama and Papa help though! You guys are doing a great job!

My tiny one grew an inch in a week! I can’t confirm but I find myself thinking “Wasn’t she shorter yesterday??”

She’s going to be 2 in September and she’s huge, but too much of a diva to get hurt or trip. “Why walk when you can have minions do that for you?” ;)

That’s our Mercy! She was about 2 when she chipped those same teeth so badly they had to be filed. They’re still sharp enough that they have gone all the way through her bottom lip more than once! She definitely keeps me on my toes. I guess we all need one who does that, eh?

Ooh she sounds so much like my Susie! Susannah bumped her head 4 time the other day. I’m not talking little bumps I’m talking running into things at full speed and giving her big goose eggs/bruises. I look at her with all those bruises on her head and feel like a horrible mama. But things just happen when they are super active and don’t watch where they’re going. Thank you Lord for protecting them during these little years!
