Cod Liver Oil for Kids

by Mama Chocolate on October 29, 2012

Cod Liver Oil is one of the best nutritional supplements you can give your family.

Keeper of the Home has a great article on the Benefits of Cod Liver Oil.

She lists some great brands that are the most beneficial, (and tells you why!) but at this point, we’re not quite that crunchy. Getting my little girls to gag down the smelly stuff is not on the top of my things-I-want-to-do list these days, but I do want them to be getting at least some of the benefits of regularly taking cod liver oil.

Cod Liver Oil Supports:

  • Brain Health & Cognitive Function
  • Attention Span & Intelligence
  • Eye Health – Visual Acuity
  • Well-being

I started searching around for a good cod liver oil for kids and came across this yummy variety by Barlean’s. The girls absolutely love it. I don’t even have to try to remember to give it to them, because they are always spying it in the fridge and then begging for their daily “fruit treat!” (They don’t even know it’s oil from a fish’s liver – I think we’ll keep it that way for a little while…)

Barlean’s Kids DHA is a pure & pristine source of molecularly distilled, pharmaceutical grade Cod Liver Oil abundant in naturally occurring Omega-3s, EP & DHA and Vitamins A & D.

It’s also mercury and lead-free, making it a safe option for your little ones.

Currently, the best price I can find is from Vitacost, at $18.36 per 8 oz bottle. While this may sound a little pricey, it’s less than half the price of the “best” stuff (that I’d have to battle my kids to swallow!) and well-worth the health benefits for your children, (see above linked article!)

If you’re a new customer, you can use this $10 Vitacost credit to get started.  Through Tuesday, 10/30, noon EST, new and current Vitacost customers can get 10% off their entire order with the coupon code: TEN212B

I’m super happy to have found a cod liver oil option that helps my girls get the benefits in a painless, easy, way. I get to look forward to giving them what they see as a “treat” and  feel good about getting all those beneficial nutrients and vitamins into their growing bodies and minds!

Healthy and the kids love it- Kuddos! Luckily our daughter likes bitter things and doesn’t mind taking the liquid vitamins for now. I’ll have to look these up for future reference.
