Funky Fluff Fusion Bamboo 3-in-1 Cloth Diaper Review

by Mama Chocolate on October 31, 2012

Most experienced cloth-diapering mamas eventually discover which style is going to be their favorite, whether it’s a prefold or fitted with a cover, pocket, all-in-2 (AI2) or all-in-one (AIO.)

Unfortunately this can take some trial-and-error involving a lot of time, and potentially, a lot of money before you settle on what works for you and your babies.

What if you invest in a big stash of AIO diapers, only to discover that the longer drying time is inconvenient and frustrating to you? Or perhaps you stock up on pocket diapers and decide they’re too much work with all that “stuffing.”

How would you like a diaper that could morph into your favorite of three different options? Buy a stash of Funky Fluff Fusion 3-in-1 diapers, and you get to decide (and even change your mind along the way!)

Which is your favorite? Will you use them as pockets, AI2′s or AIO’s?

As a pocket diaper, you can stuff the diaper with one or more inserts, leaving it loose inside, or snapping it in if you like (perhaps for an older or more active baby.) When it’s time to wash, you can easily shake the insert loose into the diaper pail (no touching yucky inserts!) or even just unsnap it and let it agitate out in the washing machine on it’s own.

Snap the insert over the top of the diaper for an All-in-2 diaper. This option is great if you don’t want to have to stuff the insert inside the diaper, and want to easily remove the insert for washing and quicker drying.

Want your diapers to be simple, one-piece affairs? Just stuff that insert in there, snap it down and you’re done! Wash and dry the diaper with the insert safely and permanently snapped in as an All-in-One diaper. Never lose it or mess with it again.

The Funky Fluff Fusion Bamboo 3-in-1 System comes with two inserts.

The light, smaller soaker, consisting of 2 layers of bamboo blend terry, can be used in the newborn and/or small rise setting. It can also function as a booster for overnight and for older babies.

Also included is a heavy duty, super absorbent soaker consisting of 4 layers of bamboo blend terry.

The heavy duty soaker can be folded at the crease line and used in a newborn and/or small setting for heavy wetters if the light soaker is not enough. For maximum absorbency, the soaker can be placed with the folded portion at the top of the diaper for boys and with the folded portion at the bottom for girls

There are snaps both in the front and back. Use both or even just one to stabilize the inserts.

The one-size design fits babies from 7 – 35+ lbs and the 2 x 4 rise settings adjust to for newborn, small, medium and large fittings. I absolutely love the fit of this diaper on both of my girls. It is a little stretchier than a lot of pocket diapers that I’ve tried, making it easier to get a snug, yet comfortable fit.

It is also super-trim, most notably so on Elanora at 2 months and 10 lbs. One-size diapers often over-power a little tiny baby and make their little newborn onesies stretch out at the bottoms.

While I also love the way it fits Victoria, (2yrs and 30lbs) I’ve found it doesn’t hold up well to her expert super-soaking skills. With both inserts, it is sufficient for day-time use, but nap-times are risky, and night-times are doomed. She has soaked through every time I’ve tried it on her at night. Perhaps with a few extra soakers, our problem would be solved, since I am sure it’s simply an issue of absorbency and not leaking or fitting issues.

Since I love its trim design for Elanora, I will probably be using it exclusively for her from now on anyway.

That newborn crossover snap is good for more than just getting a snug fit on a tiny baby…

I love this feature. We have run out the door in a hurry so many times when I later realize that I have left my wet bag home, (again.) Or perhaps we decided to take a walk and ended up at Grandma’s house, where we get chatting long enough to need a diaper change and I obviously didn’t bring my wet bag along.

With those crossover snaps, I can simply roll up the diaper and snap it into a very tidy little package, safe for mess-free transport.

I love this color combo for my little girl. I also think it’s neat when CDs can fold up like this. It’s a great feature for on the go. Thanks for sharing.

The snaps on these diapers are so great. I also like the funky color schemes!

Thank you for the review. It is good to hear that this diaper has some stretch to it. That is one of my biggest complaints with most of my pockets. Lobe some stretch for a better fit.

Oh my goodness, the inside of that diaper looks SOOOOO soft <3 Definitely must have at least one of these!!!

I love how you can fold this diaper up! Comes in very handy when you are out and have a yucky diaper on your hands!

Katie Fender November 1, 2012 at 9:18 am

I really love the 3 in 1 system. You can decide which way you’d like to use the diaper each time you use it. Genius!

barnold November 1, 2012 at 9:32 am

I really like all that bamboo! Go renewable resources!

I hadn’t considered the benefit of being able to snap up a dirty diaper like that for when we’re on the go. I actually have some diapers with cross over snaps so I may try that. These seem like really nice diapers from all the reviews I’ve read. I love all the pictures in yours.

Rachel N November 1, 2012 at 1:11 pm

These diapers have so many great features. I really like the wrap and snap feature!

What has been the most successful way to remove poo from the diapers and make usable again? Basically how do you do it moms, from nasty diaper to clean a dry ready to use again. I’ve been trying a million different ways and ending up feeling like there has got to be a better way! i’m having to manually scrub the poo off with a scrub brush. Then add laundry detergent with scrub brush to wash out the stain. I let these soak overnight with vinegar. Then I put it through the wash in the morning and line dry in sunlight. There are still stains there still is a smell and over all experience is leaving me a little grossed out…what am I doing wrong?

I have 2 of these. I agree the fit is fabulous but my almost 6 month old can soak the inserts in no time flat. I fold the small one and the large one and stuff up front for my boy. That seems to have helped without buying additional inserts. I don’t know that I’d use it over night without more stuffing though.

Amanda Alvarado November 1, 2012 at 3:52 pm

I love the cross over tabs! I’m really starting to love these diapers reading all the reviews!

Olivia L November 1, 2012 at 4:29 pm

Great review, I just realized another feature of this fabulous dipe that I love! the snap in option for snapping in the insert to create an all in one wow, i feel silly now but it is awesome to have that cause i do notice my insert wriggling around when im changing my son. this option is one of the best!

Regan November 1, 2012 at 8:11 pm

The contrasting snaps are such a great idea. I love how soft they look

Thank you for the review. As a first time expectant mother I am new to cloth diapering, and it is nice to be able to see what other people think of different diapers before going out and buying some.

jamie davis November 2, 2012 at 1:29 am

I love that it folds up like that. No more fear opening the wet bag after a long day out and about.

Gina Ferrell November 2, 2012 at 10:45 am

I love these diapers and the colors. They look soft and comfy too.

KD November 2, 2012 at 12:42 pm

I thought I would like AI1 or pockets, but am wishing I had some AI2 in my stash..this diaper would have been god for that!

Julie Ghrist November 2, 2012 at 5:01 pm

I love how nice this diaper rolls up to self contain! I cannot tell you how many times I left the house with my son and then realized after changing a diaper that I forgot a wet bag! I loved when I would have a diaper on that I could roll up and snap together!

Alex Liz Robinson November 3, 2012 at 6:23 am

I love how it is 3 in 1 and the cute colors!

Great review! I love how you can roll up a dirty diaper and snap it shut – what a great tip!

Jodi J November 5, 2012 at 10:14 am

These look great! I would probably mostly use them as pocket diapers but it would be nice to be able to use them as AI2 diapers also.

Keera November 6, 2012 at 9:22 am

I like how you can fold it up super small for transport! Pretty sure my baby is going to have skinny legs so it would be nice to have a trim fit diaper
