Gearing up to…MOVE!

I am not an organized person. I wish I was. I’ll betchya my husband wishes I was.

But, nope. Somehow I missed that special gene, and it’s a constant struggle for me.

Sheesh, keeping the dishes washed is a constant struggle for me, let alone keeping piles of toys, closets of clothes, shoes and miscellaneous junk in any sort of decent order.

So, facing the daunting task of moving with three small children in tow is more than mildly terrifying to me.

I don’t want to take all this junk with me, and I certainly don’t want to have to unpack it all from jumbled up boxes of random stuff.

Our house is officially on the market, and I am using this time (while we wait for someone to come along and pay us amazing, big $$$$ for our beautiful house, any takers?) to declutter, organize and simplify.

As a Brother Ambassador, I will be using my new Brother P-Touch Labeler to help me along in this process! (Can I say: awesomest campaign everr?!) During the next month, I get to use this labeler to help me organize my home! With this extra motivation, I am excited to get started and transform the piles of junk into tidy, functional, order!

I have a few areas that need it the worst. Here are my “before” photos. I know how to get crafty with my camera for my blog photography and usually carefully leave out the mess surrounding my recipes and projects that end up here on the blog.

But not today, folks. These are raw and real. No prepping, no careful cropping, these are the honest-to-goodness truth of my house.


I’ll be starting with my closet. I have never attempted to even create a system or order to those shelves, and we’ve lived here for six years. I think it’s about time to shape up. We could be getting so much more utility from those shelves if I had a plan.

Next up, (oh my word!) is this horrible kitchen cabinet. Yes. It pretty much always looks like this. Yes. It’s gross. Yes. I can rarely find what I want when I want it.

…and the laundry room. Jeepers, that over there to the left is still an old apple box that we used to pack stuff when we moved here. Six years ago.

So, here it goes! Cheer me on, or join me in my journey to a tidier, or more organized home! I can’t wait to show you how the P-Touch can help!

I am totally an unorganized, messy person, and my husband is a neat freak. I drive him crazy on a regular basis. It got so bad that he told me he would give up junk food for a YEAR if I could keep the kitchen clean for one month. …I haven’t succeeded yet.

Wow, that is awesome! I wonder if I could get my hubby to agree to a deal like that…he just might do it. Actually pulling off my part would be a MAJOR challenge, though! LOL!

You can do it! There is some latent neat gene in there somewhere. (And that kitchen cupboard was clean at least once — I know.)

Throw stuff away!!! Bag it up and call a charity with a truck to send some guys over to pick it up. If you look at something and think, “I *might* need that” You don’t need it—at least not is any reasonable length of time…then you can get a new and better one.
Hahaha—I just moved! This is advice I got, but didn’t really listen to. Now I have boxes of stuff that I actually boxed up, labelled, and moved to my new home and am wondering what the heck I was thinking!?
Good luck–can’t wait to see the “during” and “after” pics. :)

I have been throwing stuff away and donating like a mad woman!! We had to clear out a lot of stuff already, just to be able to have the house ready for showings. I’m still finding stuff we can live without, but now I can focus more on organizing the stuff that we DO need/want/use. :-)
I think I should use your rule when I’m unpacking, too, though: Look at it again and ask if I *really* need it…and if not, it’s gone!

Oh, best of luck! I have come to terms with my own mess … seeing as how small children just make more messes and that rarely leaves time to organize and clean, but the thought of moving would have me in a cold sweat. Yes, awesomest campaign, ever! And perfect for your current situation. I shared how I organized my craft room (that was a huge job!) and can’t wait to see how you tackle your cabinets and laundry room. :) …oh, and if you have any baby stuff you need taken off your hands and don’t want to move, this OR mama is due in June. Lol.

Do you need a bassinet? :-D I love to lend it to you, since we won’t be needing it for another year or two, probably or if/when another baby comes along!
