Besides the simple fact that it’s kind of a pain and a mess, mopping is pretty difficult to fit into my schedule in the midst of toddlers running around…and once they’re asleep, mopping is one of the last things I feel like doing.
I always want to vacuum right before I mop, too. And I can’t run the vacuum while the girls are sleeping, or it wakes them up. So, I can’t vacuum while they’re asleep, and I can’t mop while they’re awake.
Combine these obstacles with the fact that I just plain ol’ hate cleaning my floors and it makes for a pretty disgusting floor on a regular basis.
A few years ago, I started searching for a solution, and thought I’d found some help when I bought a steamer mop. After convincing John that we needed it, it was a great investment and would help me so much, after only a few weeks of using it, I realized to my dismay it wasn’t helping much at all.
I still had the problem of having to vacuum first, the steamer left pretty major puddles as it cleaned, making it still impossible to use when the girls were running around (we’ve had a few slips and head-bonks from wet floors!) and you could only used bottled distilled water in it. It took almost 10 minutes to warm up each time and required at least as much elbow grease as a regular mopping system and was frankly a flimsy piece of junk.
I was so disappointed in this machine that I thought was going to revolutionize my floor cleaning system and make it bearable at last. Since then, I’ve been skeptical of steamers in general and John was even more convinced we weren’t spending that much money on something like that again, only to have it flop again.
When I took a look at the HAAN Total HD60 Steam Sweeper and then had the chance to try it, I allowed myself to get a little excited about a possible solution to my problem!
When it arrived and I assembled it, I was dubious that such a small, lightweight (8lbs!) tool could accomplish what I needed it too, but after putting it to work, I am thrilled to say that it completely delivers as advertised!
The HAAN Total tackles three chores with one machine; sweeping, steaming and sanitizing in one easy step. It’s designed with a low-profile swivel head to easily fit under furniture and glide around cabinets and other obstacles. Steam and sweep together or separately. The sweeper has a motorized brush roll that picks up debris from solid surfaces and carpet. To steam, fill the water tank at the sink and it’s ready to clean in just 20 seconds.
The HAAN Total steam mop function kills 99.9% of household germs, bacteria and dust mites without chemicals.
- Motorized Brush Roll
- Easy-empty Dust Bin
- Low Profile Swivel Head
- Removable Water Tank
- Machine Powered Steam Pump
- 15 Steam Jets
The combination of a steam and sweep in one machine is brilliant and super helpful in solving my mopping troubles! While the suction is not as strong on this as a regular vacuum, it is completely adequate for grabbing up all the crumbs as I steam, and it is much quieter than a regular vacuum: meaning I can use it during nap times!
If the floor is super messy, you can run only the brush sweep function first to get the worst picked up before adding steam. The dust bin part is easily removable to dump out the crumbs, dust and (in our house,) loads of hair. I seem to be shedding…
It also doesn’t leave puddles behind as you steam and the included microfiber pads that attach do a great job of scrubbing up sticky messes with very little elbow grease needed. The worst spots needed a few passes, but I didn’t have to put any effort into it except swiping the steamer back a forth over it, so much easier than the steamer I’ve used before, (which will soon be trashed.)
I love how quickly it is ready to use, within minutes of getting it plugged in, and that you can use regular tap water. The steamer I had before was a pain in the neck to fill up, you couldn’t even see how much water was in it to see if it needed refilling, and you had to use distilled water only.
With the HAAN Total HD60, you can fill it up right at the sink, pop it back into the machine and easily see when it needs a refill (after about 25 minutes of steaming.) There is also a red indicator light to let you know it’s time to refill.
If you have hard water, the steamer comes with several packets of the HAAN Fresh Rinse Lime and Scale remover that can be added to the tank every six months to remove the buildup.
You can use the steam sweeper on any sealed hard surface floor, and even use it to sweep and freshen up carpets when you attach the included carpet glide.
At $149.95, I truly believe the HAAN Total HD60 Steam Sweeper is worth every penny! Sweeping and steaming simultaneously, picking up debris and sanitizing your home in just one step with only tap water, (no chemicals!) I think you’ll have a hard time finding another machine that will do the same for this price.
