These cute little guys are tradition with my in-laws for Thanksgiving and Christmas pre-dinner snacks.
We usually make a variety: some with plain cream cheese and some with herb cream cheese. Both are delicious, but I especially love the flavor of herb cream cheese, so that is my preference.
Olive Penguins
Ingredients
- extra large olives (for the bodies)
- medium olives (for the heads)
- cream cheese (with herbs is extra delicious!)
- peeled carrot
- toothpicks
- ice for “snow” (optional)
While your olives drain, (you want them as dry as possible,) slice the peeled carrot into coins and cut little notches out to make the penguins’ feet. Save the little notch pieces to use for the beaks.
Slice one side of an extra-large olive lengthwise and using a knife or cake decorating bag and tip, squish a small amount of cream cheese into the olive cavity.
Make a small hole in the middle of a medium olive and poke a sliver of carrot in for the beak.
Use a toothpick to stack the head, body and feet together.
Repeat, repeat, repeat! If you get a few people working on this, you’ll have a little penguin army in no time!
Crush several ice cubes in a blender to make a bed of “snow” for the plate as an extra decorative touch. Find the toothpicks with sparkly frills on one end for even happier olive penguins.

CUTE!!! My grandson has loved olives since he was eating table food. I always thought that was weird. I love them too. I’m having Christmas tonight so I will have to make these for him!
