Moonstruck Chocolate Café Review {with a delicious giveaway!}

by Mama Chocolate on February 14, 2012

You may have heard of, (and enjoyed the delights of!) the Moonstruck Chocolate Co., but if you live in the Portland, Oregon area, you need to know about their Moonstruck Chocolate Café locations!

I was given the opportunity to come and experience their Northwest Portland location, (open until 10pm!) with my mom and husband. We were taking her out to dinner for her birthday and a stop at the Moonstruck  Chocolate Café the perfect finale to our evening.

When we arrived, we were royally treated to a  lovely fondue platter…

And this was not just any ol’ fondue platter. Tasty biscotti, delicious shortbread cookies, pretzels, dried fruits and gourmet marshmallows, hand-piped by the Moonstruck Chocolate’s very own master chocolatier, Julian Rose.

But of course, the star of the show was the chocolate…ohh, the chocolate. Sweet bliss.

Moonstruck Chocolate’s specialty is their single origin bar. Most chocolates are made with cacao beans from several different regions, but the single origin bars are just that…made from cacao beans from only one region, giving them each a unique and one-of-a-kind flavor.

Our server explained to me the intricacies of the flavors of each bar, and recommended the Fortunato No. 4 for our fondue, for its smoother dark characteristics.

The poor misguided unfortunate sections of our population who don’t care for dark chocolate often complain of its bitterness. The Fortunato No. 4 chocolate has an amazingly smooth characteristic not usually found in such dark chocolate.

What’s more, until recently, the cacao bean that it is made from was thought extinct. Rediscovered in northern Peru, the trees thrive at the highest altitude of any known cacao variety, resulting in a delicate and rare flavor.

Their selection of truffles is simply glorious.

Along with the beautiful and the delicate, they didn’t leave out the adorable. Katie was fascinated by the sweet little kitten, puppy and mouse creations. Nana secretly bought a special little mouse for Katie before we left.

In the car during our long trip home, she surprised Katie with the delightful little box that Moonstruck carefully packaged for us. My little girl is just as much a chocolate lover as her mama already, but she loved it so much, that she just looked lovingly at the little guy forever before she finally consumed him.

I  love Moonstruck Chocolate’s upscale style of wrapping their chocolate gifts. I wanted to grab up one of each of the Valentine’s boxes to take home and frame.

Find the location nearest you and take your darlin’ out for a sweet date at the Moonstruck Chocolate Café!

Enjoy the amazing fondue, delectable drinking chocolate, or treat yourself to a few of the beautiful truffle creations.

Take home some tumbled chocolate and a few chocolate bars to enjoy later, (also available online!)

One lucky Mama Chocolate reader is going to win a selection of Moonstruck Chocolate’s top favorites, Dark Chocolate Tumbled Ice Wine Raisins, Milk Chocolate Tumbled Sea Salt Caramels and the Fortunato No. 4 Dark Chocolate Tumbled Cacao Beans.”

(giveaway will be shipped to the winner and is open to all US residents, 18yrs old and up)

I love Moonstruck chocolates! I am blessed to live in the Pacific Northwest and near their cafes. It’s an hour drive to get to one, but it is so worth it!!!

Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe should be on bucket lists across the world. I took my 3-y-o daughter there to pick up a V-day treat for my husband. She said: “Let’s come back here for dinner sometime!” That we should!! Four courses of chocolate, please, and a Mint Tingle Milkshake!

I will be eating them myself! I really, really appreciate fine chocolates. The man of the house can barely tell the difference between good chocolate and a cheap candy bar, so I won’t waste it on him, LOL!
