My husband is a thrifty man. He sometimes calls it “stingy”, but I beg to differ.
He spends money wisely and rarely buys anything for himself, but when it comes to others, he is one of the most generous men I know. Best of all? He loves giving me presents.
I love getting presents.
(seriously, I’m like a kid on Christmas morning!)
It’s just another of the confirmations we have seen of God’s hand in getting the two of us together. I mean, how handy is it that John’s way of expressing love is to give gifts, and one of the main love languages that speaks to me is getting presents?!
Before we were married, he delighted me with extravagant bouquets of roses delivered to my house on several occasions, and since then, sometimes for anniversaries or on my birthday when he has to work during the day, he has had flowers delivered by Interflora to me at our house.
This June 23rd was our 5th anniversary. I can’t believe how it can seem like just a few months ago that we walked down that aisle together and yet at the same time feel like we have always been married.
We ran away to the coast for a whole week alone.
No kids. For a week.
We’d never even had one night away together since our beautiful daughter, Katie, was born 3.5 years ago.
It was a wonderful time to get to reconnect and recharge. (And yes, I did shrivel a bit, being away from my babies for so long. But they were having a grand time with grandparents.)
While we were away, any stores we were at, John was sure to find some pretty thing for me that he insisted on getting. I felt like quite the pampered wife by the time we arrived back home.
Thrifty, yes. Stingy? No.
My man knows how to splurge. Especially on me.
