Besides indoor decoration, (the tree, piled with ornaments, snowglobes, garlands, lights, nativity scenes and bows everywhere,) my dad and older brothers would get out sometime in early December and get the house lit up.
When it gets dark at 4:30 in the afternoon, you need something cheery to come home to, and it has always been one of our favorite traditions.
Despite my love of this yearly tradition, since getting married, John and I have just never gotten around to it. Every year, I tell myself, this is the year we’ll get out, buy some lights and get them up on our sad, dark house.
And every year we get too busy or it’s not in the budget.
So when Kmart gave us $100 and asked us to spend it on as much outdoor Christmas lights as we could, I was thrilled.
I went with my mom, two sisters and both Katie and Victoria. We were all having a jolly time and it took much longer than it needed to as we meandered and chatted and generally soaked up the Christmas-ness of it all.
Victoria was about 6 weeks old last Christmas, so this is really the first Christmas for her where she is aware of what is going on, and all the pretty lights, presents and reindeer, (see above.)
I had hoped to get a battery-powered wreath for our door, but they only had two left and they were both dead or dying.
I was disappointed but came up with a very nice pre-lit garland for around the door, which will satisfy.
Besides the lovely garland, I also stocked up with 6 boxes of LED icicle lights. They’re more energy-efficient than the other kinds and should hopefully last us longer.
We got clips for the roof to hang the up with and a box of 50 colored lights to put in the girls room!
AND…I stayed in budget. Except for that Tangled poster that somehow made it into our basket….
Without that, I would have made it right on the dot of $100, and look how much I saved! Score!
I can’t wait to get these up on our house!

Tomorrow we will be putting all of this up outside!
I can’t wait to see how it looks and enjoy Katie’s reaction to the “sparklies” on our house!
