Perky-Pet Mountain Chapel Bird Feeder Review

by Mama Chocolate on May 29, 2012

I have always loved watching birds, and I particularly remember a season of our homeschooling where we studied birds, and I was fascinated with how easy it is to identify literally dozens of varieties just in your own yard!

It gets even more fun when you head to a wetland park or other wild life refuge and spend time watching the birds and other animals there, and I can’t wait to take my kiddos out some day for those kinds of outings.

For now, Katie and Victoria are quite satisfied and excited by the little chickadees and other birds that come around our house.

We recently set up the Perky Pet Mountain Chapel Bird Feeder out on our deck and we suddenly have so many more birds to watch up close, right from our windows!

Of course, we were soon reminded that where birds come to eat, they also come and make messes. So we’ll be moving it out from the deck onto some kind of hanger soon, so we don’t have their lovely droppings all over our deck anymore, (yuck!)

Victoria (18-months) gets especially excited watching the “tweet-tweets” coming back and forth to our feeder. So far we’ve mostly just attracted the little birds, but I’m going to do some research into what kinds of feed best attracts different breeds to get some more variety.

I love the beautiful design of the Mountain Chapel, and it’s held up really well through several months of being out in the weather and (frequent) rain of the Pacific Northwest.

It’s even been knocked down several times when we had some high winds recently. We finally brought it in for a few days because the weather was so bad, but I couldn’t believe the sturdy little thing survived through getting slammed to the ground multiple times with out busting apart or a single crack in the plastic!

It’s cute…but the squirrels would probably get fed more than the birds here. :p

LOL, yeah! We are lucky to be pretty much squirrel-less around our house. Some of our neighbors have them, but they stay out of our yard, partly because we don’t have any really big trees nearby, and partly because of our monstrous dog, I’m guessing. ;-)

My girls love watching birds too. My mom has a bird feeder in her front and back yard and the girls will stand at the window forever watching all the different birds. I suppose I really should invest in a bird feeder for our house! The one you shared is really cute and reasonably priced as well, I’ll have to look into it a lil more. Thanks!

We have so many bird feeders in our yard! We love to watch the birds. We get tufted titmouse, chickadees, cardinals, Eastern Bluebirds, blue jays, Red-Cockaded Woodpeckers, …SO many different birds! Even Whistling Ducks! This is a beautiful feeder. I’m going to check in on one for our yard too!

I love that bird feeder. I was just outside yesterday looking at mine and realized they need to be replaced. Sounds like it’d hold up well here in MN, too!
