I started collecting the Pfaltzgraff Summer Breeze dishes before I was married, but I only had 6 dinner plates and an odd assortment of bowls, salad plates, and about 14 more mugs than we actually needed.
I was parking outside of the house where a dear friend was having her baby shower, when my Garage-Sale Queen sister-in-law pulled up and told me that there was a sale up the street and they had MY dishes! A whole set!
The sticker on the set had said, “make offer,” and Katelyn had asked them want they wanted for it. They said $50.
A complete, 8-place-settings set, with several extra serving pieces!
I tried not to let my giddy feelings show, mostly because I wasn’t too sure yet if John would think spending 50 bucks on dishes right now would be the best idea.
So, I decided to offer them $20 and see what they did with it. I told myself that if they stuck at $50 that I really shouldn’t spend that much right now on such things, and it would be my cue from God that I should walk away, (I would have struggled!)
The husband had to confer with his wife about it…apparently they really wanted to get rid of it, and it’d been sitting through their weekend-long garage sale with no bites. They were closing up in less than an hour, and wanted it gone.
They said they’d take $35 and I snatched it.
I knew I was getting a good deal, but I really didn’t realize at the time what a great deal I had just scored!
I’d been wanting more of these dishes and had been planning on adding gradually through Ebay. I just now actually looked on Ebay, and pretty much the best deal I can find is $40 for 8 dinner plates. Just the dinner plates. I just got the WHOLE set for less than what it would have cost me for just the dinner plates, (and that doesn’t even take into account shipping costs!)
Brand new on the Pfaltzgraff site, I could pay $400+ for what God just dropped in my lap.
God knows even the insignificant things that make me insanely happy.
