Our little Katie is starting to be interested in reading already at just 3 years old, and I find myself looking for tools to help her reach that goal.
I’ll admit that I haven’t done that great of a job during the past few years teaching her everything that her sponge-y little mind is capable of soaking up. She is a sharp little cookie and learns things quickly, so I’m trying to work with her more and find tools that will get her started in the right direction.
One thing we are working on currently is letter recognition. She’s known her “ABC’s” almost since she could talk and sing (which she loves to do!) but recognizing each letter by sight is taking longer and more effort on my part.
Lately we’ve been using the Alphabet Express Deluxe Software from School Zone to help with letter recognition and to give her something fun and special to do!
Hop aboard the Alphabet Express for a fun-filled learning adventure! Alphabet Express Software helps children learn about the letters of the alphabet, which is an essential first step in learning to read. The friendly conductor guides children through each activity, providing help and encouragement. Great reward animations and funny characters entertain and motivate children while they learn.
This award-winning program explores each letter of the alphabet in a variety of alphabet games and activities. It features colorful letter scenes, an alphabet song, a fun firehouse game, 30 dot-to-dot puzzles, 15 maze puzzles, 10 hidden letter pictures, movies, and more. Plus, there are 78 coloring pages for on-screen and off-screen creativity and printable pages that encourage children to practice writing each letter of the alphabet. Interactive whiteboard-friendly!
Katie’s favorite part right now is the “painting,” where there is a scene full of things that begin with a certain letter, (she is working on “A” below.) She was delighted to be able to so easily turn an anteater pink!
(please ignore my messy desk, especially the Christmas ribbon that is randomly sitting there in July)
Katie is still mastering the use of a mouse, so some of the other aspects of the program require more assistance from me. Part of our goal with her using Alphabet Express is for her to get practice using the mouse, and it’s giving her great incentive and reward for persevering with it, and I’ve been impressed with her patience as she learns to control that wayward cursor!
School Zone is generously giving away a copy of the Alphabet Express Deluxe Software ($9.99 value) to one lucky Mama Chocolate reader during the Never Stop Learning giveaway event, going on NOW!
