Most of us have experienced the joys of a teething baby…the drool, the fussing, the chewing, the rashes and the fevers.
My first daughter, Katie, was a pretty laid-back baby, and didn’t have too many problems while teething, but as I have mentioned before, little Victoria is turning out to be a different story…
She cut her first tooth in June, while we were at our annual week-long church camp.
Or maybe not.
I had heard of using amber for teething pain relief at some point, (after Katie was past the age of needing relief so much,) and I started to become more interested as I realized the teething phase with Victoria could be pretty unpleasant for all parties involved.
I talked to a couple moms who used them and swore they made a noticeable difference in their babies’ temperaments, so I decided to give amber a try.
Teething Tots sent me a necklace for Victoria and for Katie to review, and I’ve had Victoria’s on her almost every day since then.
When I first started putting it on her, (and taking it off at night,) I would occasionally forget to put it back on in the morning. I couldn’t believe the difference it made.
We’d be having a horrible day…Victoria can be a clingy, moody little thing when she doesn’t feel good, and man, was she moody! Then I would remember: I’d forgotten the amber necklace! I would put it on and by the next day she was back to her bouncy, cheerful self!
This week, Victoria finally cut through her 2nd and 3rd tooth, almost simultaneously, but you’d never know it except if you’re looking for the proof in her little mouth!
I was amazed how it even cuts down on the drooling! Especially in the summer heat, excessive drooling can result in chapped cheeks, chin, and neck, and Victoria has had none of this.
Information on Baltic Amber from Teething Tots:
“Once an infant starts teething, it can be a painful process for infants and parents alike. Ideal for both boys and girls to wear, Baltic Amber teething necklaces are designed to be worn (not chewed ) to help diminish the pain and discomfort associated with teething. Unlike teething gels, powders or pain relief syrups, these traditional beaded amber necklaces imported from the Baltic region provide a non-invasive and side-effect free remedy for the pain and complications of teething.
“Amber is fossilized sap which contains trace amounts of succinic acid, a known anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. The warmth from the skin releases the active ingredient in the amber. The active ingredient is quickly absorbed into the blood stream, when worn against the skin, soothing a baby naturally while he or she struggles with the pain of cutting brand new teeth. By having your baby wear the necklace everyday, it will help to reduce the common symptoms related to teething such as; redness in the cheeks, swollen gums, diaper rashes and fevers.”

As for Katie and her necklace…
She thinks it’s “so beeeautiful!!” but I feel like I can’t get her to keep it on long enough to measure any benefits it might have to her. She’s always wanting to take it off and it often doubles as a “snake, coming to GET YOU!”
Besides pain relief, amber has been worn for centuries to promote fast healing and boost the immune system. Its analgesic and anit-inflammatory properties make it ideal as a natural homeopathic product for babies, children, and even adults.
