When I knew that the Go Green and Giggle Garden Activity Set was on its way to our home, I knew it was going to be fun, but I had no idea that Katie would get so excited about it!
Literally ever since it came all she wanted was to “do her garden!”
As a mama, I was looking forward to this project as a way to teach Katie about gardening and being “green” in general.
We didn’t get a garden in this last year for a variety of weird circumstances, mostly involving a crazy-busy spring, plus way too much rain turning the time we were trying to prep the soil.
So the last garden we had was when Katie was less than a year old, obviously when she was too young to remember anything about it.
We read the book first, and it was an instant hit for Katie. Personally, I frankly found it over-the-top cheesy, and the rhymes somewhat forced, but Katie loved it, so the creators of the Gigglin’ Garden Gang know what they’re doing.
The sing-along CD has 4 tracks on it, and starts with an introduction of Sunflower Suzi. After that there is an extremely catchy song about gigglin’ in the garden with the “gang” and going green.
Again, I found it almost unbearably cheesy, but Katie loves it! She was dancing all around the house to it and asked me to play it over and over again.
Now I have it running through my brain all day and even while trying to sleep…
When we were ready to start the garden, Katie could hardly contain herself!
The instructions were super easy. A slightly older child could do the project alone with no trouble.
Katie still has trouble handling water without disaster, however, so Mama helped.
Katie can’t wait for those little seeds to sprout. I’m not sure she totally got it when I told her that there won’t actually be flowers for some time, but in the mean time, I feel like she learned a lot about how gardens and seed work, and is well on her way to being a responsible, eco-conscience adult.
