Taco Night with McCormick – Turmeric Chicken Wraps

Tacos are easy, fun, and one of my favorite quick dinners to put together, especially when we have company. McCormick sent us a collection of spices to try out, and I chose to spotlight turmeric with their delicious Turmeric Spiced Chicken recipe!

Besides its amazing flavor and color, turmeric is a one of nature’s most powerful spices and has a myriad of health benefits. Turmeric possesses antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and acts as a liver detoxifier.

Research is beginning to show that it is helpful in preventing and battling several types of cancer, particularly prostate and breast cancers, and also protecting against diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Turmeric is a main component of curry powder and easier than you might think to incorporate into your diet!

Start with these delicious and colorful chicken wraps!

 Turmeric Spiced Chicken with Tomato Avocado Salsa

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon McCormick garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon McCormick Gourmet Collection Sicilian Sea Salt
  • 1 teaspoon McCormick Turmeric, Ground
  • 1/2 teaspoon McCormick Red Pepper, Crushed
  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs, trimmed
  • 6 medium, vine-ripened tomatoes, cut into 1/2-inch chunks, (2 1/2 cups)
  • 2 avocados peeled and cut into 1/2-inch chunks (1 1/2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon McCormick Gourmet Collection Sicilian Sea Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon McCormick Turmeric, Ground
  • 2 cups lettuce
  • 8 flour tortillas (8-inch)
  1. For the chicken, mix oil, garlic powder, sea salt, turmeric and red pepper in a small bowl. Place chicken in a large resealable plastic bag or glass dish. Add marinade; turn to coat well. Refrigerate 30 minutes or longer for extra flavor.
  2. Meanwhile, for the salsa, mix all ingredients in medium bowl. Cover. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Remove chicken from marinade. Discard any remaining marinade.
  3. Grill chicken over medium-high heat 6 to 8 minutes per side until cooked through. Cut chicken into thin strips. Place 1/4 cup lettuce on each tortilla. Fill with chicken and salsa. Fold sides of tortilla over filling and roll up to serve.

With the lime and avocado, this salsa will not keep…don’t make it too far in advance and eat it all up in the same day for best results!

Bearded Man raved about this new dish, and even our picky girls ate it with gusto! We will definitely be making this again and I’m going to be looking for more ways to incorporate turmeric into our menus now that I know more about its powerful benefits!
