I was sent the Plum Pixie Fairy Costume ($23.98) to review from the WholesaleCostumeClub.
After my last experience with a similar costume company, (where the costume was much smaller than expected,) I went with size “small” for this one (recommended for ages 3-4 on their sizing chart) for my average-sized almost-3-year-old Katie. The sizing chart also states, “Costumes tend to run small. If in doubt get the next larger size.”
As you can see from the below photos, Katie is swimming in it. I think a more accurate age range for this size would be around 6 years old.
This is a costume, so I’m not too worried about it, and actually kind of glad that it will fit her for a few years. She absolutely LOVES the wings and likes to wear them with any current outfit.
The only other issue I have with this costume, is that some of the components seemed drastically different than the image from the website. The headband is made to look like it is full of flowers and the floral decoration at the neckline is a nice cluster of blooms.
In reality, our costume sports a total of 6 rather sad little flowers and there are two stuck to the neckline. I can’t see them handling being washed well, either. Fortunately, since it’s a costume, we won’t have to wash it often, so it shouldn’t be much of an issue. I will probably just hand wash and line dry.
Over all, I wasn’t too impressed with this costume and would be pretty disappointed if I had needed this to fit for a certain event and paid $23.98 for this quality. As it is, it’s a great addition to Katie’s dress-up collection and she is delighted to be able to fly about being a fairy and turning us all into frogs with her wand.
